Developing a Disaster Recovery and Continuous Operations Solution in the Cloud

Problem

A large, public organization needed to ensure that it's publicly facing websites would continue to be available to US citizens both domestically and abroad in the event of a disaster occurring at their local datacenter.

Approach

CloudAdvantage performed a full assessment of the public facing site and then worked with the client to both design and implement a solution in the Amazon EC2 cloud that met the availability, performance, and security needs of the customer.

Result

The client did not have a huge capital expenditure in order to procure the hardware for the COOP environment, nor did they have to spend months trying to identify a secure facility or new staff to manage the location. Instead, they were able to quickly provision servers in a new availability zone and leverage the pay-as-you-go model to dramatically decrease their costs. The ultimate solution was significantly cheaper than a traditional datacenter solution.
